In the early months of 2024, the Gold Institute for International Strategy has remained steadfast in its commitment to promoting democratic values, fostering international relations, and addressing pressing global issues. As we reflect on our recent endeavors, it becomes evident that our Institute's impact transcends borders and resonates on a global scale.
One of the cornerstones of our efforts has been the active engagement of Gold Institute senior fellows with the U.S. Congress. Their collaborative efforts have focused on finalizing language and policy proposals aimed at enhancing U.S. security and that of its allies. By working closely with policymakers, we aim to shape legislation that reflects our commitment to Middle Eastern stability and cooperation and its impact here at home.
Distinguished Fellow Rob Roos MEP testified before a U.S. Senate panel chaired by Senator Ron Johnson (WI), discussing the importance of democratic oversight during global health crises. His testimony shed light on the World Health Organization's powers and emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability in international governance structures.
In January, our Institute President, Eli Gold, traveled to Bangladesh to observe the country's elections. Amidst concerns about the fairness of the electoral process, Eli Gold spent eight days on the ground, affirming that the elections were indeed free and fair. His firsthand experience underscores the importance of international observers in ensuring the integrity of democratic processes worldwide.
During his visit to Bangladesh, Eli Gold seized the opportunity to engage with key figures in the country's leadership, including Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan. These diplomatic dialogues emphasized the significance of fostering stronger relations between Bangladesh and the United States, laying the groundwork for future collaboration and mutual understanding.
Back in New York, our Institute's presence was marked by impactful discussions led by the Institute’s Ambassador Mark Foley. These discussions focused on combating antisemitism in higher education institutions and on efforts to eradicate human trafficking within the Commonwealth of Virginia. By addressing these pressing issues, we reaffirm our commitment to defending human rights and promoting inclusivity on a global scale.
Eli Gold also hosted a Chairman's dinner roundtable, focusing on the complexities of the war in Gaza and exploring potential pathways for peace and stability in the region. By facilitating dialogue and the exchange of perspectives, we remain committed to contributing constructively to resolving longstanding conflicts.
Furthermore, recent discussions about President Biden's frailty have underscored the necessity of a clear and efficient succession plan. No matter which of the two currently nominated candidates win, each will be the oldest to enter office, and the oldest to leave, should they complete the full term. For this reason, our Senior Fellow John Wohlstetter has been diligently working on a new book examining the history and practicality of presidential succession. The forthcoming book, titled "Presidential Succession," is set to be released in April 2024. This initiative reflects our Institute's commitment to fostering informed discourse on critical constitutional matters.
On Wednesday, April 10th the Gold Institute-NY will host an evening with John Wohlstetter to discuss this topic and his new book. To reserve your seats click here.
As we look ahead, our Institute remains dedicated to its mission of promoting global cooperation and democratic values. We extend our gratitude to our members and partners for their continued support. For those not yet supporting, I ask you to consider joining our efforts through your generosity. Together, we will continue to make meaningful contributions to global affairs and work towards a more peaceful and prosperous world.
